History

Red Emu Safety is owned and operated by Queensland and Australian rugby league legend Dale “Rowdy” Shearer who is also the Director of Red Emu Products. Dale is a highly recognised and proud Aboriginal, being born in St George, Queensland.   Red Emu Safety  is inspired by his Indigenous heritage and his totem; the Emu which is known for their long-distance running.  We consider it much like our Company where we will look to make our mark early and then sustain the business for many years to come. The Emu and the Kangaroo are two rare animals that cannot walk backward, so like the Emu we focus on always moving forward looking for more exciting opportunities in the future.

Symbolising the lands from which the name has come; the company Red Emu Products is tall and strong, their movement fast and agile. The colour red represents the land of his people and is a sign of wisdom – traditionally used by the initiated. The land of Kamilaroi people stretches from South Queensland, crossing over the border into New South Wales.

The Safety Wear has been designed by people of strong character, with a hunger, speed, and passion to bring his vision to life.

Todd Campbell, the Operations Manager has over 15 years experience in sourcing Safety Garments and Products and supplying products purchased by large companies in Australia and other countries. Todd has long term working relationships with various factories and specialises in the supply of imported quality safety garments and safety products manufactured to customer specifications.

Dale chose this path to motivate and inspire other Indigenous people that they too can achieve success in business. Rowdy is a strong advocate for men’s mental health and he devotes partial profits of this range to “Emu Men” , a group, dedicated to supporting males mental health providing the opportunity for men and teenagers to learn the art of Didgeridoo making. But also just as important, is that he has set up a business called “Lil Emu“ to support the Indigenous Literacy Australia Foundation which creates reading at an early age.

Dale’s two sons Jesse and Jakson are also involved with the company, which makes them a 100% Indigenous family-owned company.
